The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences. Initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, KVPY is held every year to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

An ensuing question that follows is that ‘Should people become educated to gain capabilities for entering the workforce, or should they be nurtured towards becoming responsible citizens through social, economic, cultural and intellectual development?’. Eleanor Roosevelt once quoted in a 1930 article, "Good Citizenship: The Purpose of Education".
National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a National-Level Scholarship Program at the Secondary School level to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent. NTSE is conducted every year at Two levels - Stage-I (State Level), conducted by the States/Union Territories and Stage-II (National Level), conducted by NCERT. The objective of the two-tier examination is to identify the talented students who have a special aptitude for Sciences, Mathematics, Social Sciences and questions based on Analytical Reasoning.
JEE Advanced 2018 is going to be held on 20th May 2018 and IIT Kanpur is the organizing institution. Only this year, a decision has been taken to make logistics and evaluation process easier and consequently the exam will be conducted in the Computer Based Test (CBT) or online Mode. In the online mode, students would need to take the exam at the designated centres where instead of marking their answers in an OMR (Optical Mark Reading) sheet, they would need to answer the questions on a computer. There have been occasional errors in the JEE Advanced question papers and now with the introduction of CBT or online mode such errors will hopefully be removed.
Every year lacs of students compete for seats in reputed engineering colleges like the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and other government and private colleges. The entry to these colleges is gained through Joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as JEE which is a national level engineering entrance exam held usually on first or second Sunday of April every year for admission to different engineering courses. Performance in JEE is the main criteria for securing admission to the NITs and other institutes while it is the first stage exam for admission to the IITs. Between 10 and 12 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main examination every year.
