Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay was established in the year 1958. The institute is located in Powai one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai and is sprawled across 550 acres.  It has gained nationwide popularity for being the leader in engineering education and research. Array of Departments and courses at IIT-Bombay

Hostel facility for the students       

IIT-Bombay offers extensive residential facilities to its students with the facility of guest accommodation for the parents for a limited time. In all, there are 17 hostels (hostels no-1 to16, hostel no -18 and Tansa) at IIT-Bombay. The basic facilities like bed, chair, study table, cupboard are provided to the students for a comfortable living.    

Placement and career opportunities       

IIT-Bombay offers golden placement opportunities to its students. In the year 2019, the institute had the highest placement record, as more than 1300 offers were proposed by more than 260 companies. Out of all the offers, 1172 were accepted by the students. With this, IIT-Bombay also had international offers from 156 companies from various nations including Taiwan, Singapore, UAE, Japan, USA, South Korea, and many others. No doubt, the institute has much to offer to its students. 

   Some famous alumni of IIT-Bombay 

  • Manohar Parrikar- The very popular personality who has been the Chief Minister of Goa for 4 times is from IIT-Bombay. In the year 1978, he did his graduation in Metallurgical Engineering from the institute.   
  • K Sivan- India’s notable space scientist & Chairman- ISRO, Kailasavadivoo Sivan, also known as “Rocket Man”, is from IIT-Bombay only. It was in 2006 that he attained the doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering from the institute.     
  • Ankit Bhati & Bhavish Aggarwal- The founders of leading cab service provider, Ola, were a part of IIT-Bombay. Ankit (CTO of Ola) did his BTech and MTech in Mechanical Engineering while Bhavish who is the CEO of Ola completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from this very institute.     
  • Nandan Nilekani- One of the famed personalities who is one of the founders of Infosys is an alumnus from IIT-Bombay. He completed his graduation in Electrical Engineering from the institute. Between 2009 and 2013, he also served as the Chairman of the Aadhaar issuing authority, UIDAI.
